Website Maintainance & Remodeling

specializing in WordPress – fast work and quick modifications via CSS

For you

WEBSITE REPAIR & MAINTENANCE

  • Is your volunteer webmaster too busy? I can quickly bring your site up to date, and make the modifications you need to stay relevant.
  • Does your good-looking WordPress, Joomla, or hand-coded website seem daunting to maintain? Let me do the tech stuff for you, so you can properly focus your energy on content.
  • Concerned about the distraction and expense of planning a new design? I can make your current site functional.

WORDPRESS TEMPLATE MODS VIA CUSTOM CSS

  • Frustrated by your WordPress template? Too much whitespace, and would you like to position the elements better? I can help with that.

WordPress has a built-in but little used function that allows adjustments without changing the template code. CNPS Quarterly Gatherings (screenshot on right and link below) is an example of a customized mod that requires less scrolling and provides more space for information.

QUICK BUILD-OUTS FROM A TEMPLATE

Description coming soon!

USING A SIMPLE WEBSITE AS A WORKGROUP ENVIRONMENT

For committees and workgroups, a private website can serve as a central location for communication and work sharing. Unlike conventional cloud storage, your topics and documents can be arranged via menus, annotated, and illustrated. And the structure can easily be re-arranged as required.

Current

This is my personal site

First built on the discontinued Classic Google Sites, recreating the appearance in WordPress was a challenging and educational experience.(Comparison) By intention, I've tried to avoid being biographical or comprehensive. It has served well as an informal social resumé.

CNPS Quarterly Gatherings

Designer/coordinator, four sites per year, first on the classic Google Sites (see "more screenshots"), and now on WordPress, with spin-off websites for Chapter Council committees. Council meeting sample

VoiceofRoma.com

I've been the site manager for many years. link (Yes, it's due for a design update!) It is hand-coded with SSI headers and footers, with the content topics in the swapped out using javascript. I was responsible for most everything, except the lovely violet/gold landing page, the banner graphics, and the sweet blue border around the content. (image below)

Facebook

Politics, culture, empathy, surreal lunacy (e.g., "Motivator posters")... and frogs. These days we are very political. Most posts are restricted to friends, but you can get the idea. https://facebook.com/levinel

North Coast Chapter CNPS

Originally handcoded, the Joomla CMS version featured a Facebook feed embedded in home page to add some dynamism to the content. On this website, Virtual Wildflower Show 2020, originally on Google Sites Classic but migrated to Joomla, incorporated Java-generated photo galleries. (Unforunately, the chapter decided to use WordPress for their website, and the contracted design was a downgrade from the Joomla version.)

Rare Plant Inventory

Was the developer of the original Online Inventory of Rare and Endangered Plants. Before the data was moved online, it was updated infrequently as hard-copy. The platform and page design was modified from the open source WODA (Web Oriented Database) written in Perl and created at the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia. (image above)

Jeff Burleigh Legacy

Data monkey gig - automating the conversion of photo meta data from MS-Access to Coppermine gallery, using the SQL back end, and assembling the commands in MS-Excel.

Blogging

Initial work on MySpace was salvaged and recreated on Blogger. See Balkan page for link.

M-eye-Space

Before Facebook, we tried to out-compete each other with ingenious and/or nauseating page hacks. My trademark profile photo was an infra-red close-up of my eyeball. The occasionally used 'fiesta' version is on right.
